$1 Million Milestone Celebrated at Eighth Annual Pocono Mountains Community Fundraiser

Four local non-profits receive donations totaling more than $180,000

Jul 28, 2011

SKYTOP, PA – July 28, 2011 – The community’s generosity surpassed the million dollar milestone at tonight’s completely sold-out Eighth Annual Pocono Mountains Community Fundraiser, entitled “A One in a Million Event.”

Four local human service organizations received donations totaling more than $180,000, thereby bringing the event’s eight-year total to $1,064,896. The amount of money raised in 2011 is the largest to date during the event’s eight-year run. Additionally, the event was the most widely attended to date with more than 400 attendees. This community initiative continues to be the largest single fundraiser event in Monroe County.

“The million-plus dollars raised through this unique initiative have touched the lives of literally thousands of our Monroe County neighbors. Sanofi Pasteur is honored to celebrate this milestone of generosity alongside the community that helped make such an amazing accomplishment possible,” said Damian Braga, senior vice president, Global Commercial Operations, Sanofi Pasteur.

The first three winners, selected by the Fundraiser’s agency selection committee, listed in alpha order, are: Center for Vision Loss, Monroe County Youth Employment Services, and Pocono Area Transitional Housing. A fourth winner was selected through a vote at the Fundraiser by the event’s attendees.

Center for Vision Loss will use its winnings toward implementing a state-of-the-art vision screening device that will serve more than 3,300 Monroe County children. Monroe County Youth Employment Services will help area youth obtain leadership skills, career direction, job shadowing, and work experience. Pocono Area Transitional Housing will provide temporary housing and individualized support services to local homeless families. Bob Phillips, president and CEO, Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce, and 2011 Pocono Mountains Community Fundraiser Volunteer Committee member, served as emcee for tonight’s gala, revealing the award amounts. Some 400-plus Monroe County supporters enjoyed a traditional New England-style lobster bake and dance under a beautiful chandelier-lit tent at Skytop Lodge to benefit and celebrate the four local human services organizations.

The Pocono Mountains Community Fundraiser began in 2004 based on a concept proposed by Braga. Each year Sanofi Pasteur provides all financial backing and creative services required to hold the event so that 100 percent of funds raised through sponsorships and attendance benefit selected non-profit organizations. 2011 corporate sponsors include Azzur Group, LLC, Foster Wheeler Biokinetics, Inc., Genesis Engineers, Inc., L.R.
